Photography Workshop with Young People and Families from Somali BMER (Black & Minority Ethnic & Refugee background)

This Project is part of a programme called Family Focus which aims to provide young people from BMER backgrounds (Black and Minority Ethnic and Refugee) with opportunities to increase both their creative and core skills and, as a result, improve their experiences in formal education.

During the 25 seconds exposure time needed for the camera to take these images, the participants, would use torches as pens to draw or write in the darkness combining it with portraits taken of each other.

The project that took place at London Academy College, was lead by 2 photographers: Luna Pérez-Visairas and Javier Ortega, run by Community Focus and Somali Family Support Group and funded by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
